Book Review - A Slice of Life

Image
Book title : A Slice of Life Author : Smita Das Jain   A Slice of Life is a collection of stories of different lengths, ranging from flash fictions to short stories.  The book greets you with Rendezvous with its sweet twist, then Parched gives you a ray of hope. Forever love was one of my favourites with the suspense well built up till the end. My heart will go on reminds you to keeps a check on blind expectations. The humorous section was equally fascinating. When there is a will features a wife who always has her way in her new house and her tribulations with her bathtub.  Warning! Computer virus spreads to humans was quite an out of the box idea. Go back home where you belong showcases the intricacies of a complicated relationship and how it changes over time.  The other side is a story to ponder upon since we often judge people at face value. My favourite picks were:  Forever Love ,  Where there is a will  and  The other side. The stories were really like slices of delic

Book Review - Mystery in Love Island

Book Title : Mystery in Love Island Author : Miss Anoucheka Gangabissoon, a Mauritian writer. The  book cover immediately draws you in with its mystical colours. It shows a wolf facing a little girl on a full moon starry night, already giving you a gist of the protagonists in the story. The story starts with the introduction of the female main character Aphra, which is a very unique name. We meet her in the school premises which instantly transports us to the nostalgic Lanes of our own school days. Next Aphra goes to visit her cousin in Love Island and that's where the rollercoaster of thrills and adventures begins.  The moment the werewolf makes its appearance, the page turning adventure begins and you can't put down the  book till you get to know who is behind it all. The   Story is evenly paced without over description of side characters or side stories. You get enough backstory of each character to move forward with the story.  The narration is crisp and to the point.  Th

The Jar

Gusty winds howled loudly outside while Sonia tossed and turned in bed, trying to weather the storm of emotions churning within her. Her mind drowned in a whirlpool of nostalgia, two years ago, on a similar stormy night, she was on the seventh sky after Ray had professed his love for her. Now the same sky rippled with thunder and lightning. She stood and gazed at her reflection in the mirror, “Maybe I am not as attractive as before,” she whispered, her warm breath condensing on the mirror surface, blurring her reflection.  She wiped it away, while being swept to another memory…tracing hearts on foggy car windows after a steamy love exchange under the monsoon. How she missed those idyllic trysts! *** “Sonia it seems you didn’t sleep a wink!”her friend Sarah quipped, “Don’t tell me you have been stalking Ray again.” “Life is not the same without him. I don’t show interest in doing anything now…we always did every together.” “Come on Sonia ,it’s been eight freaking months after your bre

Book Review of Ella

Image
Book Review of Ella Ella is written by a Mauritian Author - Mrs Pushmaotee Fowdur Subrun. The book cover speaks to you and gives you an insight about the book being on world travel and adventure. It features a lady surrounded with landmarks of different countries and a globe. The story unfolds with Ella making a startling discovery and becoming a sleuth on her own. It then culminates in a travelling adventure for the protagonist.   I started reading the book when I had travel plans and it certainly made me anticipate my travel more. You accompany Ella on her expeditions to various countries and feel as though you are there with her experiencing the culture and highlights of each place she visits. After her globe-trotting adventure, the book ends with a voyage within herself- Realisation of self . This book is perfect for a light read and if you want a travelling book without much drama.
